Her last illness followed a kidney disorder extending over a period of many years. Elizabeth M. Friend (nee Ryan) was born at Mobile Alabama, October 10, 1858, and died at the age of 63 years, 8 months, 13 days. Much of her early life was spent in Louisville, Ky., and at Carlyle, Ills., where the family home had been established at the different periods. After the death of her parents she came to Fairfield, Nebr., in about the year 1880. On May 8, 1882, she married Stephen H. Friend at Fairfield. To this union were born nine children, Eulalie (sic) W., John Leon, James Joseph, Thomas Alban, Theodore, Clare Rosalind, Matthew, Marion Stephanie and Frederick Joseph. At the time of her demise there survive to mourn the loss of mother, three sons, J. Leon of Hominy, Okla.; Thomas, Joseph and Mrs. W.J. Schroeder of Lawrence, and one sister, Mrs. W.M.
