She owned a dressmaking shop. May 21, 1925 - Carroll Times - Miss Elizabeth Finnegan, daughter of Mrs. M. Finnegan, whose death was mentioned in last week's Times, was one of the highly respected women of the community. In 1896 she came to Carroll from her home in Sheridan township and opened a dressmaking shop in this city. Her business flourished and grew, as she put her best effort into her work. When her health failed it was with deep regret that she gave up her chosen work. Miss Finnegan was the daughter of the late Michael Finnegan and Mrs. Margaret Finnegan and was born in Carroll county February 7, 1876. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters. For some years she had been in poor health following several strokes if paralysis. Her last illness was over a year's duration and she passed away at her home Thursday morning, May 14, at 3:30 o'clock. Besides her mother she is survived by six sisters and three brothers. Her father, Michael Finnegan, died December 7, 1893; one brother, Patrick, died in 1904, and another brother, Stephan, died in 1918. During her entire illness she was patient and uncomplaining, and her death will go very hard on her mother, brothers, and sisters, as the famly was an especially devoted one to each other. The funeral was held at the St. Joseph church Saturday morning with a solemn high mass, her brother, Rev. Joseph T. Finnegan of Gilmore City, Ia., officiating. Rev. Stephan Butler was deacon; Rev. Fr. Joseph Neppl of Pomeroy was sub-deacon; Rev. Fr. Thomas Coleman of Scranton was master of ceremonies. Fr. Butler preached the funeral ceremony and there were 13 priests, friends of Fr. Finnegan, in the sanctuary. The funeral was attended by a vast number of relatives and friends from the county aud surrounding territory. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Finnegan of Luverne, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. James O'Boyle and family of Vail.
