They were the parents of Margaret. Aug 6, 1937 - Carroll Daily Herald - Following a short illness, Thomas M. Finnegan, 56, died at the St. Anthony hospital at 5 o'clock Thursday afternoon. He had been at the hospital for the last ten days. Mr. Finnegan was virtually a lifelong resident of Carroll county, where all but 12 years of his life was spent. The body was taken to the family home at 227 South East street from the Gregory funeral home Friday morning. Solemn requiem mass will be celebrated at the funeral services which will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at St. Joseph's church. The Rev. Father Joseph T. Finnegan of Salix, brother of the deceased, will be the celebrant of the mass. Very Rev. P.T. Lynch, pastor of St. Joseph's church, will be the deacon, and Rev. D.J. Clark of Vail, sub-deacon. Burial will be in the parish cemetery and pallbearers will be E.J. Broderick, Joe Jensen, John Sandrock, James Moran, George O'Donnell, and M.L. Colllson. Mr. Finnegan, a son of Michael and Mary Finnegan, prominent Carroll county pioneers, was born on the old homestead in Sheridan township on Feb. 26, 1881. He attended school in his district and remained at home until his marriage to Miss Anna Ries, which was solemnized at Ss. Peter and Paul's church in Carroll on Oct. 12, 1911. Mr. and Mrs. Finnegan resided on the Finnegan farm in Sheridan township until 1915, when they went to Marshall, Minn., where they farmed for 12 years. Returning to Carroll in 1927, they have made their home here since that time. Mr. Finnegan was a devout member of St. Joseph's church and the Holy Name Society of the parish. Surviving are his wife and daughter, Margaret; two brothers, the Rev. Joseph T. Finnegan of Salix and the Rev. H.D. Costello of Seattle, Wash.; and five sisters, Mrs. J.S. O'Boyle of Sioux City and Misses Bina, Rose, Margaret and Agnes Finnegan of Carroll. The Rev. Joseph T. Finnegan and Mrs. J.S. O'Boyle and daughters, Misses M. Geraldine and Lillian, were here when Mr. Finnegan passed away. Mr. Finnegan's father died on Feb. 7, 1893, and his mother on Sept. 24, 1933. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kathryn and Elizabeth, and two brothers, Patrick and Stephen.
