The funeral was Saturday at 10:30 a.m., in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence, with Father Frank Machovec officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Mrs. Szopieray was born Feb.18,1892, in Lawrence where he was a lifelong resident. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society and American Legion Auxiliary, all of Lawrence. Survivors are one son, Leo Gansen, El Cerito, Calif.; three daughters, Hildegard Buescher of El Cerito, Calif., Mrs. Tom Kotinek (Agnes) of Superior and Mrs. Everett Mazour (Verena) of Lawrence; 29 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. ========= Funeral services were held Saturday, July 8, 1989 for Elizabeth Szopieray at 1030 a. m. at Sacred Heart Church. The Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated by Frank Machovec of Superior who also officiated at the graveside services at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ken and Dan Kotinek, Mick Mazour, Clarence Schutte, Paul Schutte and Bill Schendt. Elizabeth, daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth (Schroer) Schutte was born January 18, 1892 at Lawrence, Ne. and passed away July 4, 1989 at the Bethesda Care Center at Blue Hill at the age of 97. She attended St. Stephens school and grew to young womanhood in that community. She was united in marriage to George Gansen in 1911. To this union three children were born: Clementine (Sister Rachel) who passed away May 15, 1977. Leo and Hildegarde. George passed away January 11, 1916. On May 1, 1923 Elizabeth married Leo Szopieray. To this union three children were born. One daughter Edna passed away in 1933 at the age of nine. They lived on a farm southwest of Lawrence until 1945 when they retired and moved to a home in Lawrence. Leo passed away in 1973. In 1976 failing health forced Elizabeth to move to the Bethesda Care Center in Blue Hill where she passed away on July 4th. Elizabeth was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society. To her children she was a devoted mother who leaves them and example of the truly Christian life well lived. She enjoyed gardening, quilt making, crocheting and was happiest when she was working. Survivors are a son Leo Gansen of El Cerrito, Ca., daughters: Hildegarde Buescher of El Cerrito, Ca., Mrs. Tom (Edna) Kotinek of Superior, Mrs. Everett (Verena) Mazour of Lawrence; a sister Dora Kohmetscher of Harvard, 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren. Friends and relatives attending services were from Wood River, Minden and, Grand Island, Kearney, Nelson, Omaha, Blue Hill, superior, Fairfield, Harvard, Hastings, Concordia, Kansas, El Cerrito and Pinole, California, Onawa, Iowa, and Marysville, Mo.
