When I first visited the cemetery in Aug, 2003, this stone was laying face down on the ground - almost buried. When I dug the stone out, there were about 2 doz snake eggs underneath and the stone had layer after layer of dirt & muck on it. We left the stone lay face up so the rain and snow might wash off some of the layers of dirt. Frank & Martha Hamilton and I visited the cemetery this month; the stone was somewhat cleaner. Across the top of the stone, the name Elizabeth was legible. The far side of the stone is still not legible. This stone was found in the lower part of the cemetery in a corner area where 3 unmarked graves are located next to Jane Blankenship Nida. We belive them to be the gravesite of Elizabeth Shuck Nida, Peter Nida and their son Lewis Nida. As for Elizabeth's birthplace... Jack Nida (The Family Von Nida) lists it as Gallia Co. but with ? after the location. Given the place of birth for Peter Nida and for Peter's and Elizabeth's other children, all born in Virginia (some locations are now WV)...Elizabeth was probably born in Virginia.
