Born May 1, 1871, at Clayton, Iowa, Elizabeth was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Werner Strukoff. She attended the schools near her home and taught school before her marriage to Joseph Baker at Elkader, Iowa. They moved to Volga City in 1905, which has since been their home. They had four children, Frank, Margaret, Eva and Charley. Eva died in 1943. Mr. Baker died in August, 1949. Survivors include her daughter, Margaret, two sons, Frank and Charley, her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Charley Baker, three grandsons Charley Jr., Cleo and Bryant, all of Volga City; a nephew Alvin Strukoff of Garnavillo, and other relatives. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of the Rosary Society and Apostleship of Prayer. Funeral services were held Thursday at 9 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, with the pastor, Rev. Conrad R. Schallau, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Casketbearers were Loy Shea, Donald Shea, James Boland, George Belden, George Miller and George Schaefers. Among those from out of town present at the last rites were: Mr. and Mrs. George Rolfes and Alvin Strukhoff, Garnavillo; Mrs. George Wallace, Farley; Mrs. Joe Wallace, Dubuque and Mrs. Ruby White, Garber.
