She passed away Sunday, January 19, 1997 after years of poor health. In March of 1919, Elizabeth's family moved from the farm to Holyoke. She graduated from Phillips County High School in 1927. She passed away Sunday, January 19, 1997 after years of poor health. In March of 1919, Elizabeth's family moved from the farm to Holyoke. She graduated from Phillips County High School in 1927. She then went to Greeley to teachers college for six weeks and passed her teachers exam. Elizabeth returned to the Holyoke area and taught school at McKelvey in the winter of 1927-28. In 1928, she went again to college in Greeley and after the fall semester of 1929 she received a two-year lifetime teachers certificate. She finished that school year teaching six students in a remote area of Wyoming. In the fall of 1930, Elizabeth entered nurses training at Colorado General Hospital and graduated Christmas of 1933. She worked in nursing until she married G. Ralph Thompson November 2, 1935 at the Paoli parsonage. Five children were born to this union. Elzabeth was a full-time mother, active participant on the farm and active in the community. She was a faithful member of Holyoke Christian Church. She was a talented musician and her artistic talents brightened the lives of many. She began teaching at Holyoke Elementary School in the fall of 1957. During the summers she went back to college in Greeley and in August 1960, Elizabeth obtained her degree in teaching. She taught sixth grade for four years and third grade for two years in Holyoke. She went back to nursing at the Holyoke hospital in the fall of 1963 and continued until she retired in 1974. Preceding her in death were infant daughter Linda Elizabeth in October of 1937, husband Ralph, May 12, 1982, sisters Mary and Ruby and brother Paul. Survivors include children Hildegarde Ann and husband Neil Hassler of Holyoke, Michael Ralph and wife Susan Thompson of Phoenix, Arizona, Barbara Nettie and husband Lynn Gardner of Carl Junction, Missouri, and Marilyn Jo and husband Bill Ticknor of Lake Tahoe, Nevada ; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held Friday, January 24, 1997 at First Christian Church of Holyoke with Lynn Gardner and Jim Blake officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park.
