Weiker Funeral Home in Slater is in charge of the arrangements. ++++++++++++ Info below provided by Member # 46915372 ELLA GIGER YONTZ Fortified with the sacraments of the Roman Catholic Church, Ella Giger Yontz, 103, of Overland Park, KS, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Villa St. Joseph in Overland Park. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, with Fr. Paul Hartley officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from Noon until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the charity of your choice. Ella was born in the family farmhouse near Gilliam, MO. She attended Good Luck School, a one-room country school, for eight years, and graduated from Slater High School. Following graduation, she worked in several stores in Slater. On May 15, 1937, she married Norbert C. Yontz, and they made their home in Kansas City, where their daughter was born. Ella was a full-time mother and homemaker. Following Norbert's retirement from the air motive equipment field, the couple bought The Light House, a lighting fixture company, located on the corner of 63rd and Brookside Blvd. Following their retirement from the lighting fixture business, they enjoyed their home in Fairway, KS, where they spent time working in their rose garden. They were faithful members of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roeland Park, KS. Following Norbert's death on May 19, 1990, Ella stayed in her home until she was 100 years old. She is survived by daughter, Patricia Seiter and her husband Bill of Overland Park, KS; two granddaughters, Susan Seiter of Roeland Park, KS, and Carolyn Martin of Cedar Falls, IA; two great-grandchildren, Riley Martin of Lakewood, CO, and Dylan Nicole Martin (Jessica) of Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Linnebur (Linus) of Kansas City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, Nicholas J. and Mary Frances Kruse Giger; two brothers, Arthur Giger (Beulah), and Joseph C. Giger (Anna); and four sisters, Edna Giger, Freda Giger, Stella Giger, and infant Maggie Giger. Arrangements are under the directions of the Weiker Funeral Home in Slater, 660-529-2211.
