Description	:	HOFFERBER, ELLA H.—Ella H. Hofferber was born at Belvidere to Henry Voss and Rena Lubbin Voss. She was baptized at the Lutheran church at Carleton. On February 12, 1924, she was united in marriage to Fred Hofferber of Belvidere. After their marriage, Fred and Ella farmed near Belvidere for 12 years. Fred and Ella raised their children during the Depression... Read More	HOFFERBER, ELLA H.—Ella H. Hofferber was born at Belvidere to Henry Voss and Rena Lubbin Voss. She was baptized at the Lutheran church at Carleton. On February 12, 1924, she was united in marriage to Fred Hofferber of Belvidere. After their marriage, Fred and Ella farmed near Belvidere for 12 years. In 1936, they moved to a farm northwest of Geneva. Five children were born to this union. Ella was a loving wife and mother. She always took special delight in her grandchildren. Fred and Ella raised their children during the Depression and knew what hard work was, but also knew the joys of good neighbors and friends. In 1957, Ella and her husband moved from the farm to a home in Geneva. They lived there until Fred’s death in 1975. During this time Ella cooked for the Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce dinners. She also worked for several years at the Hill Top Café. At one time she operated a café in Shickley and many of her customers can attest to the fact that she was one of the best cooks in Fillmore county. For 17 years Ella was a nurse’s aide at both the old hospital and the Fillmore County Hospital, and was noted for the loving care she gave to the patients. Ella’s interests were varied and she was active in several organizations. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran church, was involved with the Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary, a member of the Geneva Community Grange and the World War I Barracks Auxiliary. After Fred’s death, she went to Heritage to reside. While living there she kept busy helping others. In 1980 she moved to Long Term Care at the hospital where her daughter and granddaughter worked and gave her the same loving care that Ella gave to so many when she worked. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one son, Marvin; a grandson, Scott Hofferber; a granddaughter, Vicki Lane; a son-in-law, James J. Lane; and by six brothers and two sisters. She is survived by three sons, Kenneth, Loren and Bob, all of Geneva; one daughter, Ardeen Gough, also of Geneva; by 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosie Bowman of Bruning; two brothers, Carl Voss of Carleton and Anton Voss of Hastings; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Prince of Peace Lutheran church in Geneva on Saturday, November 16, with Pastor Woodrow W. Wilson officiating. Music was provided by Kelly Eich as soloist who, accompanied by Mrs. Norval Lomax sang “Amazing Grace” and “Nearer My God to Thee.” Pallbearers were Steve, Kurt, Keven and Dan Hofferber; Jim Lane and Alan Doll. Honorary pallbearers were Orville Dunkin, Jessie Richards and Fred Fisher. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery and the VFW Auxiliary performed final rites at the graveside.
