Description	:	HOFFERBER, ROBERT LEE—Robert Lee Hofferber was born to Fred Hofferber and Ella H. Voss Hofferber on Dec. 17, 1933, at Belvidere. He passed away on Sept. 8, 1997, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 21 days. He was one of five children in the family. Voss Hofferber on Dec. 17, 1933, at Belvidere. He passed away on Sept. 8, 1997, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 21 days. He was one of five children in the family. Bob lived on a farm 3 miles northwest of Belvidere until the age of three, when in 1933, the family moved to a farm northwest of Geneva. He lived on the farm and attended grade school at District No. 12, near his home. He entered the Geneva Public School system and graduated with the Class of 1951. Following graduation, he took employment with Nichols Construction Company and worked for them until he entered the Army on Feb. 10, 1953. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged on Feb. 18, 1956. Upon returning home he again went to work for the Nichols Construction. He later became assistant County Superintendent of Roads for two years, before taking the job as county Highway Superintendent in 1983. Bob was married to Della Mae Wood of Morrill on July 3, 1957, and to them two sons were born. In his leisure hours, Bob enjoyed playing pickle cards and always looked forward to visiting and playing cards with his friends at the V.F.W. Club. He had a good sense of humor and loved to banter back and forth with his friends. Bob often displayed a gruff exterior on the outside that belied the fact that he was a very caring individual with a soft heart for children. He had a granddaughter who literally had him wrapped around her fingers. He loved a good joke, and it has been rumored that the T.V. remote control in his hands left little time for anyone to finish watching a complete T.V. show. Travel was not an enjoyment for Bob, as he would rather kick back in his home town and enjoy the company of his friends. He was truly devoted to his work with the Geneva Volunteer Fire Department and has served as Chief of that department for the last 19 years. During his time on the department, he only missed one fire call. He was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Samuel Marsh V.F.W. Post No. 7102, and a member of the Sloan-Bolton American Legion Post No. 68 in Geneva. Bob’s service to his community through the Fire Department will be sorely missed. He will be missed also by his many nieces, nephews, friends, co-workers and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ella Hofferber; brothers, Marvin and Loren Hofferber; and by his son, Scott Lee Hofferber. He is survived by his wife, Della; son Fred D. and wife, Carolyn; brother, Kenneth Hofferber and his wife, Helen; sister, Ardeen Gough and husband, Ray; sisters-in-law, Merna Hofferber and Marge Hofferber; and Lorraine Rupe; grandsons, Robert H. Jorgensen and Scott Michael Hofferber; granddaughter Jamie Lee Hofferber; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept 11, with Rev. Dennis Linton-Hendrick officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Ray Nichols who sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Casket bearers were Ralph Graham, Thomas Ortgies, Robert D. Robinson, Dennis Schmidt, Edward Srajhans and Steve D. Yates. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery with military honors and a final call by the Geneva Volunteer Fire Department.
