Description	:	Funeral services for Mrs Ella Kendrick, who died at New Market December 28 at the home of her son, Ralph, at the age of 88, were held at the New Market Methodist church last Friday afternoon. Rev Harry Walling in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs Bessie Godfrey and Joyce Herron with Mrs Ben Anderson at the piano. The casket bearers were her grandsons, Max Kendrick, Chester Kendrick, Thelbert Kendrick, Burdette Kendrick, Ernie Bramble, and Dwight Clothier. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs Houghland Blouse and daughter Jean of Williamson, Iowa, Mr and Mrs O.F. Kendrick, Carol and Burdette of Kansas City, Mr and Mrs Dwight Clothier of Plattsmouth, Nebr and Mrs Frank Jenkins of Des Moines. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Jan 10, 1944 Ella Mariah Roberts was born in Morrow Co, Ohio, July 16, 1855, and passed away at New Market at the home of her son, Ralph, Dec 28, 1943 at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 16 days. She was the sixth child of a family of 13 and the last to pass on to her reward. In November, 1859, she was with her parents, one sister and four brothers, came to Iowa in a covered wagon and settled on a farm ten miles northwest of Afton. There were no roads, no bridges, more like the Oregon trail just followed the divide. Moved in 1866 to Afton. They were then putting the railroad through. The father moved to six miles south of Villisca, then to Hawleyville in 1875, where she was married to Tunis R. Kendrick, Dec 22, 1875. They moved to the farm six miles north of New Market, where to this union were born six children, two of whom died in infancy. They lived on this farm until March, 1922, then moved to her present home in New Market where her husband passed away June 7, 1926. She stayed on in our home except in the winters she spent in the home of her children. The surviving children are Ora F., of Kansas City, A.C. of Sacramento, Calif, Ralph S. and Murl B. of New Market. This obituary was found among her possessions that she had written herself. At an early age she united with the Methodist Church of which she remained faithful until the end. She leaves to mourn her passing 4 sons, 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. One grandson, Waco Kendrick is serving in the U.S. Army somewhere in England. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Jan 20, 1944
