Kendrick, oldest son of Thornton and Elizabeth Kendrick, was born at Joliet, Wells county, Illinois, on June 17, 1849, and died at his home in New Market, Iowa, on June 7, 1926, aged 76 years, 11 months and 20 days. After growing into young manhood, he, with his parents, in the year 1871, came to Taylor county, Iowa, and settled near Hawleyville. He was united in marriage Dec 20, 1875, to Ella M. Roberts, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary Dec 20, 1925. To this union were born six children, two of whom died in infancy, four surviving him. Three were present at his beside at the time of his death. Mr Kendrick has been a resident of Taylor county since first coming to this state. Shortly after his marriage he purchased a farm, moving upon it and never leaving it until about three years ago when he moved to New Market. It is now known as the home place to all the children, the youngest boy now living there. Mr Kendrick had been suffering for the past two years, but he bore it patiently until the end came, Monday morning, June 7, at 9:54. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and four children: A. Kendrick, of Sacramento, Calif; O.F. Kendrick, of Chariton, Iowa; Ralph S. and Merle B. Kendrick, of New Market; twelve grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends, who join with them in their sorrow. Funeral services were held in the New Market Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Rev James Wilkins, after which interment was made in the North Grove cemetery, six miles north of Hawleyville.
