Wilcox had departed this life the previous evening at her home in Kansas City, many were the beautiful tributes to the life of this estimable lady as the sad news passed among the many friend. There was universal regret at the parting of the life, whose more than fifty years had been passed for the most part in this community. Ella R. Vannote was born November 17, 1865, near America City, in Nemaha county, and departed this life April 18, 1917, at her home in Kansas City, Kansas, at 10:30 p.m. at the age of fifty-one years, five months and one day. Her parents were of the earliest settlers of that part of Nemaha county. The girlhood days were spent on the farm home near Soldier. On November 10, 1884, she united in marriage to Mr. J. E. Wilcox, and since that time has resided in Bancroft, until last June when they moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where Mr. Wilcox is engaged in the hardware and business. Throughout the many years of the residence at Bancroft, Mrs. Wilcox was associated with her husband in the best interests of their community, both in business and social ways and the lasting friendship that bind them to their old home community will last forever. In early womanhood she united with the Christian church and maintained the faith. Besides the bereaved husband, there are two daughters and two sons, C . O. Wilcox who is associated in business with his father; Clyde E. Wil cox of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Ada Swartz of Bancroft and Miss Bernice of Kansas City; one grandchild, Mary Frances Swartz; her aged mother, Mrs. Vannote of Soldier; two sisters Mrs. Sarah Shaffer of Burr Oak and Mrs Nettie Riggs of Soldier; one brother of Mission, Texas. The eldest child of Mr and Mrs Wilcox, Ida May, died at the age of seven years. All were present for the funeral services except the brother in Texas, and the son, Clyde E. Wilcox, of California, who is in the Marine recruiting work and was unable to get a leave of absence. The body was brought to the old home at Bancroft and the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Frank Richards, of the Holton Christian church on Friday afternoon at two o'clock. A large number of friends and neighbors of many years were present to pay the last tribute to all that was mortal of this good and kindly lady. Mrs. Wilcox was taken ill on Sunday, April 15th, with acute diabetes and her conditions grew worse in spite of the efforts of the three attending physicians of Kansas City. On the day of death Dr. Corwin of Goff, the family physician for many years, was called to her bedside, but his diagnosis agreed with the other physicians and little hope was held for recovery. There is little that cold type can express in the way of tribute to a life of more than fifty years of quite, friendly, unassuming association with us. The memory of her useful life, her quiet, motherly demeanor will live long in the memory of those who were honored by her friendship. The bereaved family is extended the most sincere sympathy in their bereavement.
