Description	:	Ella (Stier) Neubaum (1908 - 2002 ) Ella Neubaum was born December 1, 1908, the daughter of Adolph and Mary Johannsen Stier. She died December 5, 2002 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-four. Ella received most of her education in a one-room school near the family farm. Read More	Ella (Stier) Neubaum (1908 - 2002 ) Ella Neubaum was born December 1, 1908, the daughter of Adolph and Mary Johannsen Stier. She died December 5, 2002 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-four. Ella received most of her education in a one-room school near the family farm. She married Barney Neubaum in 1929. They met when youth groups from Barney's church and Ella's church got together for dances. The couple were blessed with the birth of five children. The family lived in Mapleton and later moved to Schleswig until 1944, when they moved to Manning. Ella moved to Denison after Barney died in 1970. She joined Our Savior Lutheran Church and found great pleasure in the activities of the Ladies Group. She enjoyed working in the kitchen for potluck dinners, funerals and other activities. Ella loved to sew and do needlework. A great joy for many years was sewing quilts for World Relief, making over two hundred of them. She also loved working in the snack bar at the hospital. Ella also enjoyed working for "Telecare", a program where volunteers called elderly people daily to see if they needed assistance with anything. She did this for many years and also served as the volunteer organizer. When health problems developed Ella had to curtail many of the activities she enjoyed. She moved to Realife and found that she could play cards often, attend potluck dinners, and continue her church activities. In 1999, she moved to Eventide. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Barney; two daughters: Donna Joens and Betty Elnora; three brothers: Harvey, Herbert and Alvin; and three sisters: Irma Kruse, Carmen Keim, and Mildred Marquardt. She is survived by one daughter, LaJune (Mrs. Kerry Smith) of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and two sons: Robert of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Gary of Easley, South Carolina; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Loeschen officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Selected music included "Nearer My God To Thee", "Take My Life and Let it Be", and "Beautiful Savior". Those serving as pallbearers were: Gary Neubaum, Kerry Smith, Joel Smith, Merlin Joens, James Smith, and Jim Joens. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served at Cronk's Cafe in Denison. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
