Grace was born Ellen Grace Hixson on May 10, 1912 in rural Madison County, Nebraska to Clyde R. and Francis M. (Evans) Hixson. At the age of seven her family moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota, where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1930. After spending six years in Rapid City, she moved back to Hot Springs, where she has resided ever since. Grace married Clyde Cockerham in 1932. To this union were born two children, Earline and Gary. Grace was retired from the VA Center, where she had worked for several years. Gratefull to have shared her life are her two children, Earline (Mrs. Eugene) aaberg of Summer, Wash. And Gary Cockerham and his wife Claudia of Wenatchee, Wash.; five grandchildren, Karen Jenkins, Dianne Porter, Kelly Kniffen, Jeff Cockerham and Katie Cockerham; four great-grandchildren, Krista and Arron Jenkins, Kyle Porter and Haley Kniffen; one sister Mildred Kutzor of Hot Springs and several nieces and nephews. Grace was precded in death by her parents and one sister, Dorothy Muchow. Arrangements were in the care of Isburg-McColley's Chapel of the Hills of Hot Springs.
