Gum, Jan. 6. 1916, when their eldest daughter, Woodsie Rachel, became the bride of Elliott C. Devericks. Promptly at 3 p.m. the bridal party entered the parlor to the melodious strains of the Lohengrin wedding march played by Miss Gracie Gum, a sister of the bride. Mrs. Oilie E. Rohrer was matron of honor and entered the room, carrying a bunch of evergreens. The bride entered with her father, who gave her to the waiting bridegroom at the altar. Willis Gum was best man. Rev. George Echols performed the ceremony and immediately afterwards a bountiful dinner was served. A number of invited guests were present, and the bride received many very beautiful and handsome presents. The bride is an attractive young Lady of West Va.. who is highly esteemed by all who know her. The groom is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Devericks of Highland Co. He is a promising young man and seems capable of taking care of the jewel he has won. The young couple will make their future home at Mountain View which is the home of his parents. Their marriage was quite a surprise to their many friends who wish them a happy honeymoon, and their future lives to be crowned with much success and many blessings. Highland Recorder April 4, 1963 Funeral services were held at McDowell Presbyterian Church Saturday, March 30 for Elliott Cheston Devericks, 67, of Vanderpool, who succumbed Wednesday, March 27. The services were conducted by the Rev. W.R. Goodman Jr., assisted by the Rev A.E. Johnson and the Rev. George H. Rector. Vocal selections, "Beyond the Sunset" and "Crossing the Bar" were by Miss Glenna Ruth Moyers. Burial was in Headwaters Cemetery with Obaugh Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Woodsie Rachael Gum Devericks, Vanderpool; a brother, Thomas B. Devericks, Vanderpool; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Neil, Headwaters, and Mrs. Margaret D. Smith, Washington, D.C. and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Devericks, a lifelong resident of Highland, was familiarly known as "Doc." A prosperous farmer, he also represented appliances firms locally as well as J.R. Watkins and Rawleigh Products and was known in every home in the county. Highland Recorder March 28, 1963 Elliott C. (Doc) Devericks, 67, died unexpectedly yesterday (Wednesday) at the W.H. Swadley home at McDowell, where he had stopped to rest while feeling ill. Apparent cause of death was a heart attack and the time was placed at about 3 p.m. Mr. Devericks, well known in this county, was born - Aug. 25, 1895 at Headwaters, a son of Albert B. and Sally J. Devericks. He had resided at Vanderpool with his wife, the former Woodsie Gum, for several years. Besides his widow, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Neil, Headwaters, and Mrs. Delia Margaret Maupin, Washington, D.C., and a brother, Thomas B. Devericks, Vanderpool. A sister, Mrs. Ollie D. Rexrode, preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements were not complete at press time yesterday evening and a full obituary will be carried in the Recorder next week. His World War I draft registration card stated he was engaged in farming with his father. Highland Recorder April 25, 1924 NOTICE: I have been awarded the agency of the J. R. Watkins.
