During his youth he moved with his mother to Indiana, where he married Mary Harrell, Dec. 13, 1849. To this union were born seven children, four girls and three boys, two of whom died in infancy. His wife also died Jan. 9, 1873. The other five children, Nancy J. Dawson, William Utterback, Phoebe Duree, Rebecca Street and Samuel Utterback, still survive him, also 17 grandchildren. He moved to Iowa in the autumn of 1865, and has since resided here. Since the death of his companion he made his home with his eldest child, Nancy Dawson. Funeral serves were held at the Methodist church at Hayesville, Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Gutherie of Oskaloosa. (Newspaper clipping)
