Beatrice Daily Sun, Thursday, 12 April 1962, Page 7 Carl Elmer Hagemeier, son of Frank Hagemeier and his wife, Anna, nee Schlake, was born about five miles northwest of Pickrell, Neb., August 17, 1898. When ten days old, he and his twin brother were baptized; his brother died the next day. He received his education in the country school near his home. After being instructed in the Christian doctrines of his Church, he was confirmed at St. Paul’s Luterhan on March 31, 1912 by Pastor Heist. He was a lifelong and faithful member of this congregation. His occupation was farming. About 1907 the family moved to the place that was to be his home the rest of his life, about three miles northwest of Pickrell. There, he and his sisters continued to make their home after their parents passed away. He enjoyed good health until a little over a year ago. In January of this year he entered the hospital for treatments. He returned home for a few days and upon taking a turn for the worse he again was taken to the hospital for surgery. However, the malignancy had developed to such an extent that doctors were unable to help, except to ease his pain as much as possible. He gradually grew weaker and one last Sunday, about 11:30 a.m. he was relieved of all suffering. He attained the age of 63 years, 7 months, and 1 day. He leaves to mourn his passing four brothers: Fred and Henry of Beatrice, Neb., and Frank and George of DeWitt, Neb.; two sisters, Anna and Lillie, Pickrell; and a number of other relatives. He will be missed, especially by those who were with him all his life. May his going on to a better life be an incentive to all those left behind to strive toward the goal, the mansions prepared for all who love the Savior. “I’m but a stranger here, Heaven is my home; Earth is a desert drear, Heaven is my home.
