Description	:	Funeral services E.C. "Sam" Clare, 90. of Winnetoon were held Tuesday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ with the Rev. Olin Belt officiating. Military honors were provided by VFW Post 1151 of Creighton. Pallbearers included Delmar Anderson, Jerry Ebel, Art Blair, Roy Koppelman, Harold Kehne and Kenneth Ehrenberg. Honorary pallbearers were Guy James, Marlo Custer, Edwin Boggs, Bill Lane, James Burt, Lawrence Condon, Ralph Potter and Marvin Kile. Burial was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton. He was born March 18, 1897, to Ralph and Louise (Bourke) Clare, on his grandfather's homestead one half mile west of Manning. He died Saturday, June 20 at home. They moved to Winnetoon in 1904, where his father started the first mail route. He attended Winnetoon schools. In 1917 he was married to Helen Smith at Fremont. They farmed near Winnetoon. In 1924 the family moved to Winnetoon, where he bought a dray line. In 1928 he became a salesman for Continental Oil Co. In February 1943 he enlisted in the Navy and served with the 92nd Battalion in the Pacific. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Winnetoon. In 1946 he was employed as district sales manager for Moorman Feed Co., retiring in 1962. In 1955 his wife died. In 1959 he married Florence Roberts at Ainsworth. In 1977 he wrote the history of Winnetoon school and cemetery. Mr. Clare was past president of the Winnetoon School Board, served 18 years on the Winnetoon Village Board and was a member of VFW Post 1151 of Creighton and life member of the American Legion of Creighton. Survivors include his wife of Alpine Village at Verdigre; two daughters, Dolores Falter of Creighton and Ruth Bonge Houk of Enid, OK; one step-daughter, Genevieve Wolf of Craig; two step-sons, Fred of CA and Jack of Lincoln; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
