Clare, 56, well known Winnetoon resident, took his life early Sunday morning, shooting himself in the head with a .410-gauge shotgun. The charge entered the left side of his head with part of the shot going through and emerging on the right side. He died about 3 o'clock, approximately an hour and forty minutes after the shooting. Edward Frank Clare, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clare of Winnetoon, was unmarried. He was born at Clarinda, Iowa, May 17, 1879 and was 56 years, seven months and five days old. In his infancy he was christened in the German Lutheran church. He came to Nebraska in 1879 with his parents. During his boyhood, he with his parents lived in Knox county, moved to Holt county in 1884 and back to Knox county in 1893 to a farm three miles southwest of Verdigre. In 1901 he went to Montana, returning again to Nebraska in 1919. The rest of his life was spent in Winnetoon with the exception of two years spent at Argyle, New York. He has been a member of the Modern Woodmen of America since 1920. Surviving relatives include his parents, bereaved only eight weeks ago by the death of another son, Ralph Jr. in New York; two brothers, Walter Clare of Stuart and Elmer Clare of Winnetoon and two sisters, Mrs. W.I. Lufkin of Greenwich, N.Y. and Mrs. A.W. Jewell of Winnetoon. Funeral services were to be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at his parents home in Winnetoon.
