Description	:	ELMER RICE FAMILY Elmer Rice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Rice was born in 1862 in Dixon County at Northbend on the farm now owned by Mrs. Leslie Rahn. Grandpa Rice grew up on the farm. He married Elvira Metcalf from Stevens Point, Wi., on December 21, 1885. Two daughters were born to this couple. My mother Elvira (Mrs. Will Rahn) September 17, 1887 and Ethel (Mrs. Jim Doyle) August 20, 1892. Moving from the farm into Ponca in his early life. They were members of the Presbyterian Church and were active church members. My Grandmother Rice lost her eyesight at an early age. I remember my mother telling about my Grandmother would knit even if she couldn't see. She could tell when she made a mistake and would wait for the girls to come from school to correct her mistake. She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge. Grandmother Rice passed away in 1905 at an early age, was buried from the Presbyterian Church and laid to rest in the Newcastle Cemetery. Grandpa Rice married Arminda Coats in June 1910. They spent the remainder of their lived living in Ponca, driving his Model T north of Newcastle on Turkey Creek to visit our family. Grandpa Rice died in 1940. His funeral was held in the Presbyterian Church and buried in the Newcastle Cemetery. Sumbitted by Gerry Juhlin
