WASHBURN PASSES AWAY HERE SUNDAY Final Rites for Well-Known Vermillion Horseman In the Baptist Church Tuesday A Vermillion resident for half a century, Elmer Washburn, 71, passed away early Sunday morning at his home at 525 West Cedar following a brief illness. Mr. Washburn was well known here as a horseman, having followed that occupation since a young man. He retired from racing in 1942. Elmer Hiram Washburn was born in Vermillion January 11, 1874. In 1902 he was united in marriage to Margaret Von Eschen. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon in the Baptist church by Rev. Raymond Nielsen. The Elmore-Wagner Funeral home was in charge of burial. Pallbearers were Peter Hansen, Walter Bouchey, Herb Collins, Walter Morse, Fred Peterson and Herbert Jolley. Surviving Mr. Washburn are his wife, Margaret; his mother, Mrs. Harrison Washburn of Bellingham, Wash., and a sister, Mrs. Lulu Bannister, also of Bellingham.
