Description	:	Elmer J. Gottula, 100, of Beatrice died at the Beatrice Manor on Wednesday night, Jan. 19, 2011. He was born on Oct. 9, 1910, at Steinauer later moving to Adams, graduating from Adams High School in 1929. He attended Chillicothe, Missouri Business College and University of Colorado. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942-45 as an aviation communications petty officer in a flying unit patrolling the west coast. Gottula, 100, of Beatrice died at the Beatrice Manor on Wednesday night, Jan. 19, 2011. He was born on Oct. 9, 1910, at Steinauer later moving to Adams, graduating from Adams High School in 1929. He attended Chillicothe, Missouri Business College and University of Colorado. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942-45 as an aviation communications petty officer in a flying unit patrolling the west coast. He was an agent and commercial agent for the Burlington Northern ATSF Railroad for 40 years. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Keystone and G or T Supper Groups. He was a member of the administration board, ushered for 35 years and taught Sunday school for a number of years. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 26 A.F. and A.M., Bitting-Norman Post 27 of the American Legion, Geddes-Thober Post 1077 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Noon Kiwanis and a past member of the Chamber of Commerce all of Beatrice. He enjoyed his family, playing bridge, gardening and Big Red football. Survivors include his wife, Mary of Beatrice; one daughter, Carol Townsend and husband Perry of Lansdale, Pa.; one daughter-in-law, Kay Gottula of Salisbury, N.C.; two granddaughters, Deborah Travis and husband James and Jessica Schenk and husband Brendan; one grandson, Michael Townsend; one great-grandson, Wyatt Schenk; one brother, Melvin Gottula of Adams; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Gottula of Fremont; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lola Sieber Gottula; his son, John Gottula; five brothers, Clarence, Robert, Lloyd, Orville and Omar Gottula; two sisters, Isabelle Block and Donna Goss. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 24 at Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Charles Spence, III. Burial will held at 10:15 a.m. at Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice with military honors conducted by Bitting-Norman Post 27 of the American Legion. Closed casket visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 23 from 12-9 p.m. and not at the church on Monday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice.
