She was born April 19, 1918 at Houston, Mississippi and attended and graduated from Houston High school in 1935 and then attended Miss Wylie's in Memphis. She worked as the assistant credit manager for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and then was the accountant for Frisco Railroad City Ticket office. She married Elmer Gottula April 6, 1946 in Peru. She was born April 19, 1918 at Houston, Mississippi and attended and graduated from Houston High school in 1935 and then attended Miss Wylie's in Memphis. She worked as the assistant credit manager for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and then was the accountant for Frisco Railroad City Ticket office. She married Elmer Gottula April 6, 1946 in Peru. They lived in Peru and Tecumseh before moving to Beatrice. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice and the United Methodist Women, was a former member of the administrative board and had been the financial secretary. She was the secretary at Paddock Lane Elementary School, library assistant at Beatrice High School, was also a past board member of the Beatrice YWCA, Junior Womens Club, Newcomers Club and G or T Supper Group. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs. Survivors include one daughter Carol Townsend and husband Perry of Lansdale, Pennsylvania; one daughter-in law, Kay Gottula of Salisbury, NC.; two granddaughters, Deborah Travis and husband James and Jessica Schenk and husband Brendan; one grandson Michael Townsend; one great-grandson Wyatt Schenk; one sister Grace Hayden of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law Marie Gough of Johnson City, Tenn. and Beverly Kellum of LaMirada, California; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Laura Wouldridge Kellum, her husband Elmer, who died Jan. 19, 2011, her son Rev. John Gottula and three brothers Morgan, Dennis and Rush Kellum. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m.. Tuesday, Feb.15, 2011 at Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice with Rev. Dr. Charles Spence III officiating. Burial will be at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. There will be no visitation. A memorial has been established to the Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice.
