Dirks, 64, died of gun wounds at his farm northwest of here Sunday morning, June25, 1978 County Medical Examiner Dr. John Bailey said Dirks died of self-inflected wounds. Dirks farmed one mile east and approximately a mile north of Morley, in Rome Township. He had a rural Anamosa address, Funeral services will be this morning, June 28, at 11 a.m. at the Goettsch Funeral home with burial in Wayne Zion cemetery, Monticello He was born in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa March 11, 1914, the son of Henry and Helene Neunaber Dirks. He attended the rural schools near his home. He served in the army during World War II from 1942 – 1945. On Sept 24, 1945 he was married to Elvina Stutt and the couple farmed near Morley. Mrs. Dirks preceded him in death June 4, 1977. He is survived by six children, Raymond of Monticello and Leonard, Duane, Janice, Dianne and Lori Ann all at home. Also surviving is a grandson Gordon Ray Dirks and two sisters, Mrs. Clifford Taylor and Mrs. Harold Bickford of Anamosa and four brothers, Robert and Fred of Anamosa and George and Marvin of Springville. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Earl.
