Funeral services were held 10:330 Wednesday morning, October 14, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Anamosa with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery, rural Monticello. The Rev. Jerry Engel officiated at the service. Robert Wilhelm Dirks was born February 10, 1916 at Langworthy. He was the son of Hinrich Melchers and Helena Anna Wilhelmina Neunaber Dirks. He received his education in the rural schools near his home. Robert enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941. He served on the heavy cruisers, Pensacola and the Minneapolis. Both were hit during battles. Robert W. Dirks and Lena Marie Freese were married march 1, 1945 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. Following Bob's discharge from service in October of 1945 he trained as a watch maker in Cedar Rapids and in 1950 he set up his own business on Main Street in Anamosa. In 1987 he moved his business to his home Robert was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Anamosa. He was baptized and confirmed at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. Robert served on the Anamosa City Council, St. Paul's Lutheran Church Council and the Chamber of Commerce. Robert is survived by his wife, Lena; one son, Dennis (Jeannette) Dirks, Ontario, CA; three daughters Marcia Dirks, Hesperia, CA, Brenda (Stuart) Moore, Grand Junction, CO and Patricia (Robert) Wilson, Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Craig (Kimberly) Moore and Kellie Moore; two great-grandchildren, Trevor Anhorn and Jordan Moore; one step grandchild, Thomas Vrielynck; one brother, Marvin Dirks, Springville; one sister, Edna Bickford and four brothers, Fred, George, Elmer and Earl.
