Was Son of Pioneer Resident of Muscatine - Interment to be Made at Portland, Ore. Word was received this morning by Mrs. Susan Erb, 512 West Sixth street, of the death of her son Elmer L. Erb, which occurred at his home in Carrols, Wash., Sunday afternoon. Elmer L. Erb was born in Muscatine, Ia, October 24, 1865. His father, Jacob Erb, ws one of the oldest settlers of this community. Mr. Erb finished his early schooling in Muscatine and later graduated from the Chicago School of Pharmacy. After graduation he was employed in the Peppert Drug store here for several years. He later went into business by himself, first at Davenport and afterward at Fremont, Ill. Fremont was his home until a few years ago when he was forced to go west because of his health. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth May Cawley at Davenport, June 28, 1893. To this union one son was born, Chester Erb, who survives him. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Susan Erb of Muscatine, three sisters, Mrs. W. I. Beatty, of Elk Point, South Dakota; Miss Sue Erb of Muscatine, and Miss Mira Erb, who has been with him in the west, and three brothers, Dr. B. F. Erb of Anamosa, Ed. A. Erb of Burlington, and Howard F. Erb of Three Forks, Montana. Mr. Erb, during his residence here, was an actice member of the Congregational church and a great deal of his time was spent in church work. He was a great student of nature, being especially interested in botany, of which he had made a very careful study. He was attracted to the west not merely in search of health but also that he might devote his time to the culture of medicinal herbs. Funeral services are to be held Tuesday at the home in Caroolls, and the remains taken to Portland, Ore., for interment. Published in the Muscatine Journal, July 2, 1917. Ashes of Elmer Erb, son of Mrs. S. Erb, 512 East Sixth street, who passed away last July in the state of Washington, and was cremated there, were brought to Muscatine today and interred in Greenwood ceetery. There were no services. Members of the family in Muscatine today include Howard F. Erb of Three Forks, Montana, Dr. Frank Erb of Anamosa, and Edward A. Erb of Burlington. Published in the Muscatine Journal, September 10, 1917.
