May success and plenty be their portion. ========================= Chester Herald (Chester, NE), Thursday, May 18, 1916; pg. 1 Elmer Salvester (sic) Spafford Word reached Chester Sunday of the death of Elmer Salvester (sic) at Laramie, Wyo. About three weeks ago he was stricken with spotted fever from which he died. Mr. Spafford was 38 years of age and was well known in Chester, having been born and raised in this community. His father and mother went to his bedside the latter part of last week and were with him when he died. The remains were shipped to Chester, arriving here Monday night. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church (sic) this Thursday afternoon under the direction of Funeral Director, J.B. Hinthorn. Rev. Beebe, pastor of the church will preach the sermon and interment will be in the Chester cemetery (sic). Deceased leaves a wife and six children. =================== The Hebron Journal (Hebron, NE), Friday, May 19, 1916; pg. 1 Dies of Spotted Fever CHESTER, NEB., May 18, - (By Correspondent.) - The body of Elmer Spafford arrived here Tuesday from Laramie, Wyo., where he died of spotted fever, resulting from the bite of a mountain tick. Mr. Spafford went to Wyoming from his Colorado home to prospect. Not hearing from him, his wife went to Laramie in search of him. She arrived two days before his death. He had nothing on him to indentify (sic) him and as he had been unconcious (sic) for some time no one there could notify his relatives. His parents went from here to Laramie and returned with the body. Mr. Spafford was 28 years old. He leaves a wife and six children. Rev. M.M. Long of Hebron was in charge of the services held Thursday afternoon from the M.E. church (sic). Interment was in the Chester Cemetery. ====================== The Fort Collins Express (Ft. Collins, CO), Thursday, May 25, 1916; pg. 8 WOODTICK BITE IS FATAL TO WYOMING RANCHMAN Elmer F. Spafford, formerly a well known rancher of Brush, Colo., but who removed to Laramie, Wyoming last year, died from the effects of a woodtick bite a few days ago. The first indications that he was suffering from the poison was felt in a pricking sensation in his leg. He disregarded the warning of friends and was soon seized with a violent fever.
