"Bud" Beck, Glasco, was Monday, August 30, 1993, at 10:30 a.m. at the Glasco Christian Church with Pastor Phyllis Nungester officiating. Elmer W. "Bud" Beck died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1993 at St. Joseph Hospital, Concordia, KS, at the age of 88 years. Bud, as he most often was called, was born June 15, 1905 on a farm southwest of Glasco, the only son of Henry H. and Alice McClellan Beck. Bud graduated from Glasco High School with the class of 1923. On April 27, 1927, Bud and Beatrice C. Hillan were united in Marriage at the Christian Church parsonage at Beloit, KS. They were the parents of four children, two girls and two boys. Bud and Bea celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before Bea's death in 1987. Early in their marriage Bud and Bea lived on a farm south of Glasco. Bud worked with horses as well as cattle and farming. He recalled in later yeas with fond memories his teams and the breaking and training of horses for himself and others. In 1935, he was employed by Natural Gas Pipeline Company in Glasco and was transferred in 1951 to their plant in Malvern, AK. as construction foreman of the new plant there and later served as plant foreman. He retired in 1968 and he and Bea returned to Glasco. Bud was always proud of his hometown of Glasco and worked in many ways to make it a better place to live. He served as a councilman and two terms as mayor of the city and also served as Solomon Township treasurer. In 1975, Bud was on the steering committee to form the Glasco Senior Citizens Club and served as the first elected president. He was active in the Center for many years, giving his time and labor. He was involved in the planning of the Del Ray Housing project and served as treasurer of the board. When the volunteer Glasco Ambulance Service began, he served as a driver for several years. His gardens and many flowers gave evidence of his "green thumb" and enjoyment of working with the soil. Bud was a member of the Glasco Christian Church. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and took much pleasure in his children and great-grandchildren. Three children survive him: a daughter, Betty and her husband, Wayne Nelson, Glasco; two sons, Monte and wife Brenda, Altamont, lL.; and Mark and wife, Geri, Topeka; two sisters, Melva Martin, Glasco, and Vera Ruth, Glen Elder; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Donna Darlene who died in infancy; a sister, Alice DeMars. Vocalists were Gail Cyr and Judy Wyatt, Marilyn Harwood was organist. Casket bearers were Delmar Brown, Jim DeMars, Carl Johnson, Bruce McClellan, Steve Plush and Squeak Wolf. Interment was in the Glasco Cemetery, Glasco KS. Dean Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ---
