Description	:	His parents were Henry and Elda (Beethe) Schaardt. He was baptized May 24, 1931 and confirmed Mar. 25, 1934 both at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Elk Creek, Pawnee, NE. Elmo attended the Beethe School and St. Peter's Parochial School thru the 8th grade. He served his country during the Korean Conflict from April 1952-Apr. 1954. remaining state side with 5th Army Headquarters at Ft. Sheridan based in Chicago, IL. attaining the rank of Sergeant. Elmo and Lucille Irene Dieckhoff were united in holy matrimony on June 17, 1961 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Johnson, NE.... Read More	His parents were Henry and Elda (Beethe) Schaardt. He was baptized May 24, 1931 and confirmed Mar. 25, 1934 both at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Elk Creek, Pawnee, NE. Elmo attended the Beethe School and St. Peter's Parochial School thru the 8th grade. He served his country during the Korean Conflict from April 1952-Apr. 1954. remaining state side with 5th Army Headquarters at Ft. Sheridan based in Chicago, IL. attaining the rank of Sergeant. Elmo and Lucille Irene Dieckhoff were united in holy matrimony on June 17, 1961 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Johnson, NE. They were blessed with 3 sons and a daughter. They were married 52 years. Elmo was instrumentalin forming the Tracy-Bates Ameriacan Legion Post #370 of Elk Creek on Dec. 1, 1955. He was the first commander of the Post and served the Post thru the years at different times as the Commander. Vice Commander and most recently as Adjutant. He was a charter member of the Post for 59 years. Elmo was a farmer and cattle feeder until his eyesight failed him during the past 6 years which confined him to his home. Elmo was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and served many different positions in the church. He died Sept. 21, 2013, in the same house he was born and lived all his life except the 2 years he served his country, surrounded by his wife and family after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 82 years. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife Lucille, sons. Steven & children Henry and Peyton; Rodney & wife Lee Ann & children Matthew and Jordan Schaardt & Joel and Curtis Rexroth; Dennis & wife Kimberly & children, Courtney, Colton & Clayton, daughter Susan Ferichs and husbnd Bradley & sons Ada & Isaac. sister Ruby Plager, Brother Larry Schaardt & wife Joyce, mother-in-law Hilda Dieckhoff, several brothers-and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of freinds. Elmo was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law John Dieckhoff, daughter-in-law Lisa Schaardt, brother-in-law Vernon Plager and sister-in-law Leola Jensen. Funeral services held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, NE. on Sept. 25, 2013 officiated by Rev. Robert Schermbeck. Organist Loretta Kerchal. Psllbearers: Matthew Schaardt, Joel Rexroth, Curtis Rexroth, Adam Frereichs, Colton Schaardt, Isaac Frerichs, Henry Schaardt and Clayton Schaardt. Honorary pallbearers;Timothy and Michael Schaardt. Flower bearers; Jordan Schaardt, Courtney Schaardt and Peyton Schaardt. Interment was in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elk Creek, NE. with full military honors by the Tracy-Bates Americn Legion Post#370 of Elk Creek.
