She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, was active in Faith Circle and other church activities until her death January 20, 1993 at Methodist Hospital, Omaha. Elna attended Elkhorn schools, and was graduated in 1937. On August 10, 1938, she was married to Leonard Parkening at Bethany and lived on a farm east of Elkhorn their entire married life. Three children were born to this marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Ernest. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Leonard; daughter Karen and son-in-law, John Jorgensen of Elkhorn; son, Kerwyn and daughter-in-law, Joanne of Elkhorn; daughter Kandice Aitkins and friend Tom Campbell of Spokane, Washington; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Travis and Shannon Robinson; brother and sister-in-law, Weldon and Mildred Meyer of Fremont and numerous friends and relatives. Funeral services were held January 23, 1993, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elkhorn, with Pastor Larry Arganbright officiating. Pallbearers were nephews : Craig, Jeffrey and Kevin Meyer, and Mark, Rockford and Terry Meyer. Interment was at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Reichmuth Funeral Home, Elkhorn, handled arrangements. Note ~ In last week's obituary for Elna Parkening, there were two errors : her correct age was 74, and her grandchildren Travis and Shannon Robinson were incorrectly listed as a brother and sister-in-law.
