"Liz" Brown, 80, a longtime resident of Leavenworth, went to be with her husband, Tom, in the "Happy Hunting Grounds" on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at her daughter's home in East Wenatchee, after a six month battle with cancer. Liz was born on August 28, 1928, to Per August "Gus" and Elva Esther (Wilcox) Bergren at Leavenworth, where she was raised and educated; graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1947. While in high school, Liz worked at the movie theater in Leavenworth. On January 15, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, Tom Brown, at Leavenworth, where they made their home. Liz later started working at Little's Dry Goods Store and later, the Leavenworth Fruit Company as a fruit packer. In the early 70's, she retired to become a full time homemaker. Liz loved spending time with her family, especially her husband, Tom, hunting, fishing and hiking. She also spent many enjoyable outings hiking with a group of her friends known as the Mountain Mamas. She enjoyed growing a very large vegetable garden, which she shared with family and friends and even a few strangers, putting any excess vegetables in a wheelbarrow out by the road with a big "Free" sign on them.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Phillip Lopeman of East Wenatchee; four brothers, Dave (Gloria) Bergren, Alf (Duffy) Bergren and Carl (Sheila) Bergren, all of Leavenworth and Mearl (Phyllis) Bergren of Cashmere; one sister, Margo Spado of Leavenworth; three grandchildren, Patrick (Julie) Lopeman of Wenatchee, Kurt (Dianne) Martin and Keith Martin, all of Murray, KY; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous other family members and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom in 2005; her parents; one brother, Harry; and a sister, Pat Foster.At Liz's request, there will be No Service held at this time. Liz's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers, Susan Wilcox and Jodee Hickman of Columbia River Home Care and all the folks at the Central Washington Hospice Program. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
