ELSIE GRAVES Elsie Etta Beebe, the daughter of Henry and Lydia Beebe, was born March 5, 1883, at Clarksville, Ia. When she was one year old she came with her parents to Pawnee City. The journey was made in a covered wagon. When a young girl she became a member of the Methodist church and remained a faithful member till the time of her passing. On Dec. 5, 1900, she married Marlie A. Graves who preceded her in death on Oct. 27. 1946. At that time they were living in Des Moines,Ia. Three sons were born to this union, Vern, Burchard; Wilford, Des Moines,Ia.; and Melvin, the youngest, who made his home with his mother in Lincoln where they had resided since 1953. On June 25, 1965 she fell and broke her right arm above the wrist, and was just recovering from that accident when she had the misfortune to have a more serious fall on Dec. 4 when her left leg was broken near the hip joint. She was hospitalized until Dec. 26 and was then moved to the Milder Manor Nursing Home where she passed away January 12 from a severe heart attack. Mrs.Graves was of a very cheerful disposition and very thoughtful of others. She greatly loved her family and her friends, and enjoyed keeping in touch with old friends and making new. She got much out of life, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her passing her sons, Vern and his wife, Bernice, Wilford and Melvin, also seven grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and a large number of friends. The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon at the Wherry Mortuary, Rev. W. N. Wallis officiating. Mrs. Byford Metzger, accompanied by Mrs. Ross Thiemann, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages", favorite songs of the deceased. Burial was in the Pawnee City cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Collar, Nelson Jenson, Joseph Gifford, Albert Porr, Ellis Poteet and Morris Snyder.
