She suffered a stroke last summer and had been ill since. Funeral services are being held this, Thursday, afternoon at 2:30 at the Geneva Methodist Church. Interment in the Geneva Cemetery. She passed away at the General Hospital in Lincoln, Neb., Tuesday, December 22, 1942, after a lingering illness of over five and one-half months. Miss McDermet grew to womanhood in Adair County, and September 2, 1903, she was united in marriage to Lewis Edward Hutchens at LaPlata, Mo., where they made their home for two years. In 1905, they moved to Fillmore County, Nebraska, where they established their permanent residence and where they reared their family. Mr. Hutchens was claimed in death July 20, 1927. Mrs. Hutchens was a devoted wife and mother who lived for her home and for her family. At an early age she gave her heart to Christ, and through the years she gave herself conscientiously to the Christian way of life. Shortly after her marriage, she united with the Baptist Church, and in 1914, she had her membership transferred to the First Methodist church in Geneva, Neb., of which church she was a faithful member at the time of her death. She is survived by her three children, Darrel Edward, Frances Geraldine and Elsie Maxine Nichols of Geneva, Neb.; two sisters, Mrs. Evalena Bradley and Mrs. Stella Lee Bruce of LaPlata Col.; two grandchildren, besides her other relatives and the many friends she had made. Once son died in infancy and another when about two years of age. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Geneva Thursday, December 24. The pastor, Rev. W. B. Pardun, officiated. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 31 December 1942 front page.
