Read More	Elsie Mills, a resident of Ridgefield for 70 years died in Vancouver of natural causes on August 23, 2002 at the age of 89. Survivors include two daughters: Myrna Snead of Ridgefield and Connie Mills of Tacoma, three grand children: Gary Stansgar of Ridgefield, Gerald Stansgar of Sherman Oaks, California and Gena Hall of Layton UT, four great grand children: Charlee West, Whitnee West, Alec West and Chance Hall, all of Layton, Utah. Elsie, the youngest of 14, was born on a farm east of La Center on December 17, 1912. She came to Ridgefield High School in 1926 to study business courses where she met and later married Sylvester Mills. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 1999 just a few months before he passed away. Also preceding her in death were two sons, an unnamed infant in 1953 and Carvel Mills in 1990. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Mother Advisor of the Ridgefield Rainbow Girls and very active in the planning committee for the Ridgefield Golden Grads' annual reunions. Her greatest love though, was her family. She influenced, encouraged and cared for them with modest humility. She attended every activity her grand children were involved in while they were in school. She gave and gave, never asking anything in return. Her home was always open with a warm welcome to anyone who might drop by. Her life was a life of service to everyone she knew. She never spoke an unkind word to or about anyone, was cultured, sweet, gentle and full of grace. Although her life spanned several wars, saw the depression, and many hardships she never complained, but was always cheerful with her positive outlook. She enjoyed gardening, playing cribbage with her late husband, sewing, cooking and visiting with relatives and friends. She always wanted to feed anyone who came to visit and was almost "Famous" for her chocolate chip cookies and rhubarb crisp. This refined lady's saintliness was an inspiration to all who knew her. Grandma Elsie truly was one of a kind and is greatly missed. A service in her memory will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at the Community of Christ Church located at 400 NE 179th St., Ridgefield, WA 98642. The service will be followed by a graveside service at the Ridgefield Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend both, as well as a time for visiting, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Myrna and Bob Snead at 284 S. 9th Ave. in Ridgefield, near the cemetery. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice SW, PO Box 1600, Vancouver, WA 98668.
