Elsie Gertrude Carlson, daughter of John Carl Hoferer and Mary Hoffart, was born on Nov. 2, 1919, in Knox County. Elsie attended School District 25 and two years at Verdigre Public School. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. The Rev. Geo Obermeyer baptized her on Feb. 6, 1920, and she was confirmed on June 13, 1932, all at Zion Lutheran Church. Elsie married Arnie Jessen on Jan. 2, 1942, at Neligh. They farmed west of Creighton, raising cattle and many chickens. At one time they found it necessary to put baby chicks in the upstairs of their house to keep them warm. Elsie and Arnie moved to Creighton in 1971, and Arnie passed away on June 22, 1974. Elsie was united in marriage to Dale Carlson on March 31, 1977, at Zion Lutheran Church. They made their home in Creighton, where Elsie was employed at the Creighton nursing home and at Creighton Public Schools as a cook. In 1979, she took a class on sanitation and safety at Northeast Community College. Elsie loved to bake and always had a nice garden from which she canned many of the vegetables. She had a deep love for her dogs, which were Schnauzers. Elsie made many pies, kolaches, lover's knots and tea rings to everyone's enjoyment. Elsie is survived by her stepdaughters, Carolyn (Bob) Neyens and Diana (Duane) Mlady, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded death by both of her husbands; her parents; sisters Irma Pahl, Laura Kalal, Florence Schroeder, Linda Nelson, Gladys Riege; and brothers Harry Hoferer, John Hoferer and Clarence Hoferer.
