She was united in marriage to Dale Stroud August 25, 1929 in Clarinda, Iowa. They farmed in Taylor County, near Guss the 48 years of their marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wayne Lacox. Survivors include her husband, Dale; one daughter, Janet and her husband Merwin Guss of Kelley, Iowa and one son and his wife, Edie and Marcy Stroud of Columbia, Missouri; six grandchildren, Randal Guss and wife Teri of Ames, Lynne Guss of Denver Colorado, Layne Rahbar and husband, Fred of Des Moines, Iowa, Luanne Sigler, Kelley Paul, and Ann Stroud of Columbia, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Amanda and Kelly Guss of Ames, and Marisa Sigler of Kelley, Iowa. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great joy in her life. She is also survived by seven brothers and sisters, William and wife Mabel of Indianola; Pearl Hess and husband Kelly, Villisca; Jessie Akers, Gravity, Glea and wife Marie, Nodaway, Chet and wife Helen, Springfield, Louisiana, Paul and wife Annabell, Boonville, and Edna Goodvin and husband Hoot of Carbon; also two sister-in-law, Bernice and Ted McCoy, Villisca, and Marjorie and Cecil Schrader, Sidney, numbers cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbors who will miss Elsie's friendly presence. Funerla services were held at the Guss Church, September 9 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ronald Blix officiating. Burial was in the Guss Cemetery. Pall bearers were Fred Berggren, Robert Neal, Clifford Gill, Joe Rubin, Lee Fulton, Paul Mitchell, Yale Wright, and Gerald Maxwell. The floral committee was Mrs. Wilma Gill, Mrs. Leta Rubin, and Mrs. Evelyn Neal. Music was provided by Mrs. Sherry Berggren. Adams County Free Press, September 15, 1977, page 10
