Mrs. Barth died Wednesday evening in Community Health Center, Sioux Center, where she had resided the past 16 months. The former Elta I. Gill, daughter of Samuel and Ida Gill, she was born Apr. 29, 1874 at Pomeroy. When she was 4 years old, her mother was killed in a tornado near Pomeroy and she was reared by a step-mother, Minnie Gill. She was united in marriage to John C. Barth May 15, 1892. They farmed in this vicinity until her husbands death in July, 1937, after which she continued the farming and dairy business until 1942. She continued to reside at Havelock until poor health caused her to move to Friendship Haven, Ft. Dodge, in Apr. of 1960. In 1964 she moved to the Community Health Center at Sioux Center. Three children were born of this union, "Carl and Arnold of Havelock, and Marjorie Barth Hesla of Hull. Mrs. Barth was active in community affairs and also in the Methodist church. She first post office at Havelock, where her father was the first postmaster. She served as Communion Steward for many years, secretary of the Official Board and taught Sunday School. She was a life member of the Woman's Society of Christian Services, a charter member of the Havelock's Woman's Club, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star. A sister, Mrs. Viola Clarke, preceded her in death. She is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and two nieces, Mrs. Beth Clarke Miller of Burt, and Mrs. Joyce Clarke Hopkins of Fredericksburg.
