Read More	Highland Recorder October 29, 1948 Mrs. Elva Jones Wilson, age 75, passed away quietly in her sleep at 12:30 a.m. October 25, 1948, at her home in Minnehaha Springs, West Virginia. Mrs. Wilson was born September 29, 1873 at Doe Hill, daughter of Dr. H.H. Jones and Jemima Eagle Jones, deceased. She was the third of nine children and was preceded in death by three brothers S.A. Jones of Doe Hill, Dr. A.C. Jones of Covington, Va. and Hal Jones of Spartansburg, South Carolina one sister, Martha Jones and an infant sister. Surviving her are three sisters Mrs Cora Moore of Dunmore, W.Va.; Mrs Elizabeth Hansel of Washington, D.C.; and Mrs. Grace Moore of Minnehaha Springs, W.Va. Also surviving are eight nieces and seven nephews. She was united in marriage June 6, 1900 to Sidney Wilson of Franklin, W.Va., veteran of the Spanish American War and lived with her husband in Washington, D.C., Radford, Va., and Columbus, OH. Following his death on November 20, 1911, she made her home with Mrs. Grace Moore, Minnehaha Springs and was a much loved member of this family. In early girlhood she joined the Methodist church and at the time of her death was a member of Minnehaha Methodist church. The Women’s Society of Christian Service recently honored her with a life membership for her beautiful service in the society. Her leadership was inspiring. She was a faithful tither and her contributions to all branches of the church were very generous. Mrs. Wilson was a teacher for 36 years in Virginia and in West Virginia. Her service in Pocahontas county included positions at Cass, Dunmore and at Minnehaha Springs and 12 years at Marlinton Graded school. She took great interest in all her pupils. Her former students testify to her wonderful teaching ability. Her influence for good can never be measured. She was a charter member of the Huntersville chapter, 0.E.5., and a past worthy matron. She was also a member of the Pocahontas chapter, U.D.C., and past president. The funeral service was held m the Minnehaha Springs Methodist church on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m., and interment was beside her husband in the cemetery at Doe Hill, Va. Highland Recorder July 14, 1916 Doe Hill News: Your correspondent had the pleasure of attending the Confederate Reunion at Warm Springs, Va. last Tuesday. Dr. H.H. Jones and daughter, Mrs. Sidney Wilson, Duncan Wees, a veteran of Thorn W.Va. with Elmer Snyder as chauffeur composed the party. We left Doe Hill at 5:30 a.m. and the drive to Burnsville was delightful, but when we struck the Wilderness the road was terrible. Sometimes we were in the mud up to the axle, then we would reach a hill so rough and steep that we would have to walk, but finally reached our destination about 10 a.m. found a large crowd at the Bath Court House and a larger one inside. Hon. H.H. Byrd delivered the address of welcome followed by a short address by Mr. Anderson. The orchestra from Hot Springs, Italians by birth, rendered a number of patriotic selections and southern airs, which held the audience spellbound. During the playing of Dixie one veteran could not restrain his feelings, add created a great deal of merriment by dancing a regular "hoe down." It was a rare treat to us to hear such fine musicians, and we would have felt duly compensated for our rough experience .....
