The bereaved family have the heart-felt sympathy of a host of friends largest congregation that has ever assembled at the Doe Hill church was present on Friday to pay the last tribute of respect to one whom they loved. Obituary of Mrs. Dr. Jones Died, suddenly at her home in Doe Hill, Highland county, Virginia, on the 5th day of February, 1896, Jemima J. Jones, daughter of Samuel C. and Martha E. Eagle, and wife of Dr. H. H. Jones, aged 49 years. 5 months and 9 days. To the many friends of this noble woman and her esteemed husband and family, her death was a great shock, as was shown by their tear-dimmed eyes and sad countenances. She was a woman of rare excellence of character; not demonstrative, often not letting the right hand know what the left hand did, but constantly in her home life and in her associations having an impression for good. The needy never went empty-handed from her door, and, through her thoughtful kindness, much and substantial aid and many comforts went with her husband to many afflicted and destitute homes where his profession called him. All who have ever been in her home, and they are many, know of her generous hospitality there, and every preacher who has served her church will doubtless recall the generous greetings .... She was the mother of nine children, two of them dying in infancy. Cora, the wife of Harry Moore, of Dunmore, W. Va.; Dr. A C. Jones, of the University of Virginia; Samuel A., at school at Waynesboro; Elva, Bessie, Gracie and Harry, now at home. The largest congregation, it was said, ever at the cemetery and at her home, attended her funeral, which was conducted by her pastor. Rev. F. M. Totten, assisted by Revs. W. H. Woolf, of Monterey, and C. H. Dobbs, of the Presbyterian church, of McDowell.
