Description	:	Elva Loucks was born at Mayview, Ks. She married Frank Welch, on Nov. 1. 1902. They moved to a farm at Woodston, Ks. She met with a tragic death on Mar. 16, 1910, being only 26 yrs. 3 mo & 3 days old.They had gone to burn their grass to protect their house from prairie fires. While they were back-firing, the wind changed & when Frank saw that he could not whip out the fire, he ran to the barn for his team, intending to head it off with the plow. He told Elva to keep away... Read More	Elva Loucks was born at Mayview, Ks. She married Frank Welch, on Nov. 1. 1902. They moved to a farm at Woodston, Ks. She met with a tragic death on Mar. 16, 1910, being only 26 yrs. 3 mo & 3 days old.They had gone to burn their grass to protect their house from prairie fires. While they were back-firing, the wind changed & when Frank saw that he could not whip out the fire, he ran to the barn for his team, intending to head it off with the plow. He told Elva to keep away from it until he got back, but she continued to fight the fire. When he came out with the team, he heard her screams. He saw his wife running toward him, wrapped in flames & setting the grass on fire at every step. He ran to meet her & tore off her clothes, but she was too terribly burned to live. He put her on the water sled & took her to the house. A Dr. came & relieved her suffering with opiates. In a few hrs, she died, but was consious to the end. Elva gave her heart to Christ early in life, uniting with the Mayview Christian Church & has since lived a consistant & faithful Christian.
