Elver Levern Madsen was born Oct. 26, 1929 to Chris P. and Norma Blanche (Scott) Madsen in Savage. He was raised in Savage and attended schools and graduated from the Savage High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Violet K. Krausz on July 15, 1951 in Glendive. Elver spent three years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, where he was an instructor at the Southeastern Signal School at Fort Gordon Georgia, teaching the principles of power generation and distribution. After leaving the Army he continued his education and obtained a journeymen license in the states of Washington and Idaho and the master's electrician's license in 1967. In 1964 he established and operated Madsen Hardware and Electric Company, along with a radio and TV shop. Elver was 19 years old when he began his 52 year career in the industry by installing electrical substation at Savage, Circle, Wolf Point and Fort Peck. In 1983, Elver was promoted to Chief electrical inspector for the state of Montana, with the responsibility of interpreting the Code and supervising 12 inspectors. Along with being the president of the Northwestern Section I.A.E.I. he was on the international Board of Directors of the N.B.E.E. and was an alternate for Code Panel #17. He was certified by the I.A.E.I. in one or two family dwellings. Electrical General and Electrical Plus Review, also certified by the N.B.E.E. In January of 1999, Elver became the National President of I.A.E.I. He was a graduate of the General Motors Institute and a graduate of I.C.S. in the field of radio and TV repair. He was owner and instructor of the E.L.M. Code Up Dating Seminars, which has been approved in seven states. He belonged to the First Lutheran Church in Savage and was past master of Roosevelt Masons, Lodge #130 in Savage and belonged to the Lower Yellowstone Masonic Lodge #90 in Sidney. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and hunting agates along the Yellowstone River. Elver died in Savage. Elver is survived by his wife, Violet of Savage, son, Jeffery(Christi) Madsen of Savage, daughter, Carla (Andy)Adkisson of Belfield; brother, Wesley (Annabell) Madsen of Baker; sisters, Vera "Muggs" Ler of Savage and Verna (Larry) Bliesmr of Dunnel, Minn; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and son, Bruce.
