Kelley on Nov. 21, 1928 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, IA. They were the parents of Elvira and Donald. Contributed by Rich - Mrs. Elvira B. Kelley was born Jan. 31, 1906 in Early to William and Katharina (Puetz) Gard. In 1923, Elvira graduated from Sacred Heart School in Early. On Nov. 21, 1928 she was married to Ralph A. Kelley at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Early. They lived in Early most of their lives, except for a few years when they lived in Fonda. Mrs. Kelley was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Sacred Heart Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, National and Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, Early Library Board and Early Women's Club. She served as Diocesan President of the National Council of Catholic Women and also as National Director from 1960-1964. She also served as president of the Early Women's Club and as county chairman of the Women's Federated Club. She received the Pro Ecclesia of Pontifice award from the Pope on April 21, 1963 for her work in the church, the National Council of Catholic Youth Pro Deo et Juventute Medal and the Governor's Award in 1987. Elvira volunteered her time as a musician for the liturgy and for school plays, and was organist and choir director for 18 years. She enjoyed reading, music, dancing, sewing, gardening and doing crossword puzzles. She is survived by a daughter, Sister Elvira Kelley of Dubuque; a son, Donald Kelley and his wife Jane of Storm Lake; a granddaughter, Mrs. Tracie Hughes and husband Brian and family of West Des Moines;, and a grandson, Kurt Kelley of Bronxsville, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Kelley; her parents; all of her brothers and sisters and their spouses; her daughter-in-law; and a granddaughter.
