Description	:	Elvira Janisch, age 87, died on September 21, 2007 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, NE after a lengthy illness. Read More	Elvira Janisch, age 87, died on September 21, 2007 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, NE after a lengthy illness. Funeral Services were held Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden, SD. Elvira Marie Janisch was born at home August 12, 1920 in Eden, SD, the third of eight children born to Katherine and Frank Samson. She graduated from Roslyn High School and after attending college for a year, taught rural elementary schools in the local area. Elvira was united in marriage with Arnold Janisch on July 25, 1941 in Santa Barbara, CA. After Arnold returned from the service they moved to Minneapolis, MN. Later they moved back to South Dakota where their five children were born and where they farmed and raised their family. Elvira earned her B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Northern State College and went on to teach at a number of South Dakota schools over the next 40 years. She enjoyed gardening, baking and spending time with her family, especially her two sisters, Goldie Hanson and Priscilla Pitzl. In later years, while living in Lebanon, SD, Elvira enjoyed playing bridge and Scrabble with her husband and a number of close friends. During this time, she also wrote a weekly column for the local paper, gardened and enjoyed painting. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic church and participated in church activities. In addition to all of this, her happiest times were moments shared with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her children Wayne Janisch of Emerald Hills, CA, Marilyn (Don) Ashby of Emerald Hills, CA, Joyce Hain of Fremont, NE, Abigail (John) McFarland of Sioux Falls, SD and Gary (Janet) Janisch of Fremont, NE. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Goldie Hanson of Veblen, SD; and brothers Herbert Samson, Aberdeen, SD, Norbert Samson, St. Paul, MN, and Wilfran Samson, St. Paul, MN. Preceding her in death were her husband, Arnold, in January of 1997; a granddaughter, Kathryn Hain; brothers Adolph Samson and Delbert Samson; and her sister, Priscilla Pitzl. Sisseton Courier October 2, 2007 Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Fremont, NE, is in charge of arrangements.
