Brown, 85, former resident of Viola, died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 13, at Gardena, Calif., where she had lived for the last 11 years. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 17, at 1.30 p.m., at the Methodist church, Viola. Rev. Melvin Miller conducted the service. Interment was in Wilcox cemetery. Life Outlined: She was born Aug. 28, 1882, daughter of Adelbert and Margaret Gillilan Brown, on a farm near Viola. She taught in the country school system before managing a grocery store in Viola. She was Post Mistress of Viola for 30 years. She had been a lifelong resident of Viola until moving to Gardena 11 years ago. She was a member of the Viola Methodist church, Viola Civic league, Woman's Society of Christian service and had officiated as a Sunday school superintendent for many years. Survivors Listed: Survivors include one brother, Olin Brown of California, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by four sisters and six brothers.
