Lacking by two days of reaching the age of 89 years, Mrs. Elzira Lovell died at her home in Highmore shortly before midnight June 30, 1938. She had been in failing health for about six years and during the past several months had been confined to her bed much of the time. Elzira M. Cochran was born in Middletown, Gurnsey Co., Ohio, July 2, 1848. At the age of 13 years she went with her parents to Dixon, Scott Co., Iowa, where she finished her education and grew to young womanhood. In early life she was united with the Christian Church, in which her grandfather was a pastor. On October 20, 1867, at the age of 19, she was united in marriage to Nelson G. Lovell of Dixon, Iowa. They lived at Dixon for 15 years, and in 1883 came to Miller, South Dakota, where they spent 17 years on a ranch, moving to the town of Miller in 1891. Seven children were born, of whom six survive, Mrs. Emma Myers of Highmore, South Dakota, Geo. W. Lovell of Dillon, Montana, Edward G. Lovell of Cresbard, South Dakota, Mrs. L.A. Tyler of Salem, South Dakota, Mrs. H.P. Hemmingson of Highmore, South Dakota, and Will Lovell of Morristown, South Dakota. There are also 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. One daughter. Mrs. Mary A. Tyler, died October 9, 1898. On March 12, 1915, at the age of 72 years her husband Nelson G. Lovell died at Miller. After the death of her husband Mrs. Lovell made her home with Mrs. Emma Myers at Orient, South Dakota, visiting often with Mrs. Tyler at Salem and Mrs. Hemmingson at Highmore. Six years ago Mrs. Myers and Mrs. Lovell moved to Highmore, where they have since lived, and the frail mother has been cared for by Mrs. Myers and Mr. and Mrs. H.P. Hemmingson. Funeral services were held at her home in Highmore on Sunday, July 3, and internment was made at Miller. The Rev. Walter S. Van of Highmore spoke briefly and Mrs. R.J. Drew sang two old hymns. Pallbearers were H.P. Hemmingson, Alvin Bardel, Will Myers [my grandfather], Leo Myers[my mother's brother], L. A. Tyler, and Albert Nelson.
