Lovell was sitting in his chair at home in this city talking to a friend when he suddenly passed away at the age of 72 years. He had been a robust man and vigorous up to a few years ago, when a spell of sickness reduced him greatly in flesh, and left him in poor health. Nels Lovell, as the older citizens all knew him, was an early day settler in Logan Township, on the farm now occupied by his son Edward. For several years past he has been a resident of Miller. He was a man of admirable disposition, leading a simple life of industry and kindness to his friends and neighbors, ever ready to greet them with a smile and a cheery word--a man whom it is good to know and count as a friend. He loved the outdoor life of the farmer and stockman, and labored every day patiently. He served his country well in the Civil War half a century ago, then returned to the life he loved on the farm. His family of 3 boys and 4 girls grew up and one by one departed from the family home to establish homes of their own, according to the laws of life, until he was left alone with the wife and mother, who has been his loving helpmate for so many years. One daughter, Mrs. Tyler died some years ago. Nelson G. Lovell was born in Scott County Iowa, September 20, 1843, and died at his home in this city March 12, 1915. He was married to Miss Elzira Cochran at Dixon, Iowa, October 20, 1867. To this union seven children were born. He is survived by the wife and six children, Mrs. Geo. Myers and William N. Lovell of Howe, North Dakota, Geo. N. Lovell of Dillon, E.G. Lovell of Miller, Mrs. L.A. Tyler of Salem, Mrs. H.P. Hemmingson of Highmore. They were all present at the funeral. He also leaves seven brothers and sisters. Among a large number of clippings found in his drawer one was read a funeral services prior to burial at the GAR Cemetery, "Growing Old" was the title of the clipping.
