Description	:	GIRMUS, EMIL—Emil Girmus was born to James Girmus and Anna Matejka Girmus on May 30, 1919, on a farm at Exeter. He passed away on April 3, 1992, at the Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 3 days. He was one of 12 children in the family. He passed away on April 3, 1992, at the Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 3 days. He was one of 12 children in the family. He attended District 3 School near Geneva and after graduation from the eighth grade went to work helping on the farm. In 1937 he joined the CCC’s and in 1938 he entered into the military service at Ft. Crook, NE. He was honorably discharged at Ft. Ord, Cal., in 1941. He then moved to San Diego, Cal., where he worked at Consolidated Aircraft until 1944. On November 15, 1942, he was married to Louise Katherine Brown at La Mesa, Cal. This marriage was blessed by two children, a daughter, Karen Lynne; and son, Norman Wayne. In August of 1944, Emil re-entered the Army. He was a Sergeant in the 5th division and served in the European theater in the campaigns of Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe. In 1945 he was again honorable discharged and returned to San Diego where he was employed at General Dynamics. In 1956 he was offered a 320 acre farm to rent in Chelsea township and he and the family moved back to Geneva. They resided on the farm until 1979, when they moved to town. He retired from farming in 1981. Emil was a member of the Samuel J. Marsh V.F.W. Post 7102 in Geneva. Emil has been described as “the best Grandpa. Ever” by his grandchildren and by the “neighborhood children.” His quiet, loving way will be missed greatly by his family. He was an attentive listener and took personal interest in each of his children and his grandchildren and all were a high priority with him. He was always ready to come help out or give kids a ride at a moment’s notice. He loved the outdoors, fishing and especially enjoyed taking family vacation trips. Every spring he looked forward to gardening, sitting on the patio and going for walks and generally getting out to enjoy the fresh air and the sounds and smells of spring. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward, James William and Frank; brothers-in-aw, Hubert Koehn and Ervin Odvody. He is survived by his wife, Louise; daughter, Karen Kimbrough and husband, Don Jr.; son Norman and his wife, Dianne; four grandchildren Trisha Kay and Russell Wayne Girmus and Jodi Dawn and Kevin Dean Kimbrough, brothers John and wife, Wilma, Joe and wife, Sylvia, Rudy and wife, Lenoris, Raymond and wife, Donna and Adolph and wife, Lynette; sisters, Mrs. Mildred Odvody and Mrs. Helen Koehn; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Girmus, Bernice Girmus, and Emilye Girmus. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist church in Geneva at 2 p.m. Monday, April 6, 1992, with the Rev. Stan Rider officiating. Mrs. Judy Ackland provided accompaniment for the congregation who sang “Blessed Assurance,” “Holly, Holy, Holy,” and “Jesus is Tenderly Calling.” Casket bearers were Bob, Richard, Eugene and David Girmus, Gary Reinsch and Clarence Nun.
