Description	:	DARBY - Emil John Skroch, 76, of Darby, died Sunday, Oct. 10, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. He was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Independence, Wis., son of the late Stanley and Proxeda Skroch. Emil came to the Bitterroot Valley in 1941 and worked for Walter and Lottie Long for a time. Read More	DARBY - Emil John Skroch, 76, of Darby, died Sunday, Oct. 10, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. He was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Independence, Wis., son of the late Stanley and Proxeda Skroch. Emil came to the Bitterroot Valley in 1941 and worked for Walter and Lottie Long for a time. At one time during World War II, he returned to Minnesota and worked at Honeywell building defense parts. His love of the West and wish to be a part of ranching brought him back to our valley, becoming a part of the Long family as a ranch hand but being made to feel he was closer to them than that. In 1947 he married Lenora Abbey of Darby. Together they had one son, Mike. Emil worked in logging and lumbering for Dee Shook and Milo Wilson. Later he had his own equipment and crew. As a family, Mike, Emil and Lenora started the Bitterroot Game Farm, raising pheasants and mallard ducks. Emil started the servicing of retriever trials, traveling around Montana, Idaho and Washington. At one time they raised 800 birds, which were sold to be used at the World's Fair. After selling the business, he once again returned to lumber and became a broker, shipping lumber to all the Northwest and Midwest states. He started a retail lumber store, Darby Distribution, which he sold in 1983, and then retired. Throughout his life, he was known by his many friends and family members as a man of quick wit, honesty and having a hard work ethic. Emil enjoyed hunting, fishing and all aspects of "cowboy life in the West," but his great love in the last years were his great-grandchildren Jesse and Cierra. Survivors include his wife of 51 years; son Mike; grandchildren Michelle, Chad and Eric; adopted grandson Mickey; great-granddaughter Cierra; great-grandson Jesse; brother Gene of Madison, Wis.; sisters Esther of Mesa, Ariz; Betty of Independence, Wis.; Evelyn of Chandler, Ariz.; and Elynor of Corpus Christi, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Lone Pine Cemetery in Darby with the Rev. Raymond Gilmore officiating. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
