Description	:	Funeral services were conducted Monday for Emil L. Strande, 88-year-old Lake Preston area pioneer who died at Lake Preston hospital following a brief illness. Hall, and burial was in the North Preston cemetery. Emil L. Strande was born in Fillmore County, Minn., on March 26, 1874. When he was four years of age his family and two others came by covered wagon to Dakota territory and filed homesteads in what is now known as North Preston community. Mr. Strande continued to make this area his home ever since, except for eight months spent at Bowman N.D., where he filed and proved up his own homestead in 1908. He was confirmed in the North Preston church and was a faithful member and supporter of the congregation until his death. He served on the church council as trustee and deacon for several years. He was farmer during all his active years, and was also prominent in the business life of the community. He was one of the original incorporators of the Community State Bank in Lake Preston in 1925, he and Henry Larson being the last of the original incorporators. Strande served as a director of the bank for several years until he asked to be relieved of his duties as director. He was a generous contributor to Kingsbury Manor, joining with Harmon Kopperud in making major contributions to get the fund drive for the retirement home started. Later he made another major contribution in the fund drive for furnishings for the home. During the later months of his life he lived at the retirement home. Mr. Strande, a bachelor, was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by one brother, Anton of Lake Preston; one sister, Mrs. Ida Danielson of Lake Preston; 9 nephews; and six nieces. Lake Preston Times – June 28, 1962
